PUPILS from Priorsford in Peebles yet again produced podium-top performances to win the Scottish Schools cross country title at the weekend.

The school's Primary 7 girls team of Emily Carrick-Anderson, Esme Minto, Holly Hobbs and Christine McGorum claimed gold at Kirkcaldy.

All four of the girls finished inside the top 20 places.

The medal was extra sweet for Holly who follows in the footsteps of her older sisters, Beth and Megan, by taking home a Scottish Schools gold.

Fellow Priorsford pupil Carla Latto did well to cross the line in 53rd.

And both Trinity Dimmock and Samantha Banner produced good runs to finish in 39th and 103rd, respectively.

The Priorsford Primary 6 boys team were just edged out of gold.

The quartet of Thomas Hilton (6th), Ben Allan (14th), Danny Lancaster (34th) and Oliver Furness (64th) had to settle for team silver.

There was also an individual bronze medal for Ross Wolfenden from West Linton.

Fellow West Linton pupil Cameron Welsh finished 63rd with Cody Rosin Statham in 109th.

The Primary 7 boys from Priorsford were narrowly edged out of the medals.

James Clare's 16th place along with Angus Carlyle in 20th, Fraser Carlotti in 40th and Ruaridh Johnson in 49th saw the Peebles school placed fourth.

Thomas Pickburn, also from Priorsford, crossed the line in 77th.

St Ronan's finished 20th following Elliot Brydon's 82nd, Alistair Marshall's 83rd and the 98th place finish from Myles McLaughlin.

Ewan McInally from West Linton was 77th.

The Priorsford Primary 6 girls finished 14th with Kirsten Duncan, Jess Colledge and Erin Blacklaw all crossing the line inside the top 70.

West Linton duo Bel Hubert was 95th with Grace Aitken coming home in 122nd.

The Priorsford success follows on from team victories at the Scottish Schools road relay races in October and the Borders Cross Country Championships last month.

Priorsford PE teacher Richard Edge told us: "We are delighted that two of the teams won medals.

"A lot of the pupils come to me for sport around six or seven times a week which shows how committed they are.

"It's not just athletics where we are doing well, we have pupils who are doing exceptionally well at cycling just now and our rugby team is proving hard to beat."

The Priorsford pupils are now preparing for the Scottish Schools sprint relays as well as the Three Bridges races and County Sports.
