IT was raining goals at a wet and windy Little Kerse football complex near Falkirk on Sunday as the Gala Fairydean Rovers Disability Squad produced a fantastic performance to top the National Pan Disability League Division 2 and to progress into the next round of the Scottish Cup.

Managed by Gala Fairydean Rovers first team player Tommy Patterson, the squad were on top form winning all eight of their fixtures and scoring an impressive 43 goals in the process whilst conceding only nine.

The National Disability League, run by the Scottish FA, hold a fixture day every four weeks over a six month period at the Little Kerse Football centre situated between Grangemouth and Falkirk.

The Netherdale club won all seven of their League 2 fixtures with successes over teams from Dumbarton, Blantyre, Giffnock, Stirling, two Claremount Colts teams from East Kilbride and a Partick Thistle Disability Team.

Matty Roebuck and David Smith were top scorers for the Borders side with an incredible haul of 31 goals between them.

There were strong goal-scoring debuts from new recruits Jack Gentleman, Ryan Gillie and Philip Turnbull alongside solid performances from Davie Hutcheson, Bryn Cross, Greg Sharp and goalkeeper Nathan Jones.

In their final match of the day, the Fairydean Rovers defeated Stirling City 5-1 to progress to the next round of the Scottish Cup.

Coach Patterson told us: "Our squad were very impressive today and it was good to see them perform so well.

"The boys are a credit to themselves and the club and we look forward to the next round of fixtures with confidence.”
