The 47-year-old led Great Britain to team victory in the W45 after taking the silver in her first race, the 8km cross country event.

The cross country race was held on an undulating four-lap course in a city park. Although Susan came under pressure in the second and third laps she pulled clear at the beginning of the final lap to extend her lead and finish second to Zohra Graziana of France, a former trainer partner of Great Britain and Scotland legend Yvonne Murray.

Two days later Susan took part in the 3,000m event where she was one of three athletes vying for bronze. Positions changed continually as the race unfolded with Susan dropping off the pace around 2km. However, with the constant support coming from each corner of the track, Susan rejoined the other two and produced a devastating kick for home with 350m to go to clinch the bronze, crossing the line to cheers and s standing ovation from the appreciative crowd.

In the 1,500m final the field set off at such a rate that Susan found herself at the back of the 12-strong field for the first few laps before working her way through the field and again having to dig deep as she reclaimed fourth place just before the line with another amazing sprint finish.

Susan would like to thank Tweeddale Sports Council for their financial support.
