And leading the way was Peebles’ bridal boss Amy Clancy.

The 26-year-old stormed to victory in the 200 metres at Poynder Park, passing long-time leader David Hush in the closing strides.

And less than an hour later she followed it by landing the 100 metres - also beating Hush into second place.

Coach Charlie Russell told us: “We don’t believe anyone has done the sprint double at Kelso before so this was a fantastic achievement by Amy.

“She has managed to stay injury free lately and is improving every week.” It was a memorable day for other local runners as well with Dean Whiteford from Innerleithen winning the race to the 1600 metres line with Kobe Stevens of Peebles.

In the youths races Jessica Wodehouse blasted through the field in the final of the junior 100 metres for glory.

The 12-year-old was only competing in her second race.

Coach John Motion said: “It was an excellent run from Jessica and she deserved her win.” The Youths 100 metres was won by Samantha Turnbull of Peebles - holding on to beat British age-group champion Cameron Tindle on the line.

Fellow Peebles athlete Natasha Turnbull continued the winning streak by landing the Youths 200 metres.

And there was a third place for Imogen Lewis in the final of the Junior 200 metres behind Tweed’s Angus Bryce.
