A total of 263 senior runners completed the five-miles course.

Michael Reid of Carnethy, who used to compete for the Moorfoot club, was second with Musselburgh’s Robert Watson in third.

Best performers from the Moorfoots club were 11th-placed James Britton, Colin Williams in 23rd, Craig Rendle three places further back and Eddie Balfour, who finished in 88th.

Innerleithen’s Dean Whiteford, who runs for host club Lauderdale Limpers, crossed the line in 25th.

Carnethy’s Charlotte Morgan won the ladies race from Gala Harrier Dianne Lauder and Eilis McKechanie from Hunter Bog Trotters in third.

Edinburgh’s Michale Swinton won the junior race with James Logan of Gala Harriers taking second spot and his team-mate Callum Thame in third.

Gala’s Katie Rourke was first girl home from Valencia Wright of Glasgow and Gala’s Eilidh Forbes.

The 91 juniors taking part was also a record.

Prior to Sunday’s senior race starting, Caroline McDermott, chair of the Borders Cross Country Committee, presented a cheque for £500 to Mark Ruffell of the Search and Rescue Dog Association.

The donation was part of the profits from the 2013/14 race series and was in honour of Mark’s father, Stuart, who was a long term supporter of SARDA and founder of a running club in Peebles.

The second leg of the 2014/15 series will be run at Galashiels on Sunday, November 16.
