Peebles Ams 1 Kelso Thistle 3

SATURDAY saw Peebles Ams play host to a resurgent Kelso Thistle side who have been bolstered by a number of additions from their now defunct East of Scotland side.

The away side began the match the busier and it was no surprise when they took an early lead, an incisive move down the right found the Kelso attacker on the edge of the six yard box and he coolly slotted the ball beyond the advancing Murphy.

A quick response was needed and Peebles soon found themselves on level terms when striker Muir headed powerfully home.

However, the lead didn’t last long and Kelso quickly regained the lead through some smart forward play.

A tactical change from manager Barry Thomson saw The Ams begin to assert more control over the midfield area and they almost scored their second when a penalty was given after a push in the area felled winger Inglis.

Muir couldn’t add to his tally, the penalty going agonisingly just over the bar.

The second half was one way traffic with wave after wave of Ams attacks being repelled by Kelso and in particular their goalkeeper who was having an outstanding match, pulling off save after save to keep his side in the match, including a wonderful stop to keep out a carefully placed Borthwick header.

Against the run of play Kelso broke away to add a third in injury time, the Ams finding themselves exposed at the back having pushed everyone forward in a last ditch attempt to equalise from a corner.

Although the result wasn’t the one desired, the performance was a good one and with a bit of luck the result could gone Peebles’s way.
