The 19-year-old from West Linton was part of the Scotland team who claimed ninth place at the SECC last week.

But the tournament, as well as the build up, has left her trailing with last term’s exams.

The Strathclyde University student told us: “I’m studying biomedical science and had a few exams in May which I couldn’t do.

“I have been really busy with netball for most of this year and my tutor said that I could do my exams at the end of August instead.

“The Games were great but now I’ve got a lot of catching up to do and I’m spending my days studying.” Jo and the Scottish team got off to a great start with a convincing win over St Lucia in their opener.

But hopes of a top eight finish were dented with quick, successive defeats to eventual runners-up New Zealand and bronze medalists Jamaica.

Further defeats to Malawi and Northern Ireland left them in the ninth and tenth play-off with Trinidad and Tobago, which the Scots won with ease.

Despite the defeats there is confidence within the Scottish camp - something shared by attacker Jo.

She continued: “Scotland was ranked 15th in world not that long ago - we are an improving team.

“Playing against the top teams in the world was excellent as we can learn so much from them.

“Teams like New Zealand and Australia are full time and a bit sharper than us, but it’s only a matter of time until we start closing the gap.

“We train with our clubs and the national squad almost full time and we are getting better. There’s a new structure in place which will also see more girls start playing from an earlier age.” The target now for Jo and the Scotland team is next year’s World Championships in Australia.

But for the following few weeks they will have the opportunity to reflect on an amazing 11 days in Glasgow.

Jo added: “It was an unbelievable time at the Games. The Opening Ceremony was a great way to kick start everything and I enjoyed being in the village with everyone else from Team Scotland.”
