PREPARATIONS are well underway for the new-look Peebles Summer Sevens.

The Gytes committee made the seasonal move last year.

And the pre-season event proved such a success they are continuing with sunshine sevens for 2017.

Organisers are yet again hosting a Ladies Day, which includes lunch, cocktails and and after-tournament party at the Gytes.

And there is also a Sevens Lunch for couples, friends and businesses as well as places at the President's Tent.

This year's tournament sponsors Green Field Marquees will make sure there is plenty of cover just in case the weather doesn't play ball.

Robert Knox, sevens convenor at Peebles Rugby, told us: "Everything is taking shape for this year's sevens.

"Places at our Ladies Day are already selling well and our Sevens Lunch is also filling up.

"There is some availability left but we'd advise people to get in touch quickly.

"We are all looking forward to another great tournament."

Selkirk will return to the Gytes to defend their title.

But they will be pushed hard by the hosts as well as other top Borders teams, Melrose, Hawick, Gala, Jed-Forest, and Kelso.

Near neighbours Biggar will be looking to cause an upset in their pool.

And both Watsonians and Edinburgh Accies will be expecting to progress to the knock-out stages.

The draw for the four pools of three teams will be made this (Friday) evening - and the club will be streaming the balls being pulled from the hat live on their Facebook page from 7.30pm.

The winners of each group progresses to the semi-finals.

Following this year's final The Back Green Band will provide the post-tournament party entertainment in the marquee.

The 2017 Peebles Sevens kicks off at 1.30pm on Saturday, August 5.
