WALKERBURN struggled to put a team together on Saturday as a few regulars were away to enjoy the fare at Murrayfield.

However the 16 men that were available played to the highest order and put the visiting Caledonian Thebans to the sword.

Special mention goes to ex-player Calum MacLeod who put in an emergency appearance to keep the team up to strength early on.

Captain for the day Gary Alexander lead by example and opened with an early try for the Burn that set the tone.

Tries by the prolific Ryan Scott and Simon Currie - with his first touch - put the Burn in command.

Thebans showed they weren't just down for the scenery, working hard for a close range try, but further tries by McCudden and Zokas made the half-time score comfortable with Walkerburn 31-5 in front.

The second-half saw the Burn cut loose.

Italian force of nature Francesco Castro scored two tries and dynamic hooker Connor Weatherly scored the first try of his career as the forwards got in on the act.

Scott and Alexander claimed their second tries, while wing Liam Ramsay and scrum-half Adam Williams scored as the backs made their mark.

The highlight would have to be the completion of a hat trick, for former Theban and returning prodigal son Del Zokas.

Walkerburn's unbeaten home record was extended
