SELKIRK served up a Christmas treat for their supporters on Saturday with a six-try demolition of Kelso.

It was a day of flowing rugby from the visitors at Poynder Park.

Despite falling behind to an early Matt Douglas penalty Selkirk rolled up their sleeves and played some of their best rugby of the season.

A Fraser Harkness break from deep in his own half saw three flowing phases of play completed before Gavin Craig muscled over for the opening try.

Josh Welsh and Douglas exchanged penalties as the hosts tried their best to contain Selkirk.

But just after the half hour the home line was broken again with Angus Ducket touching down in the corner.

The 13-6 half time lead was added to by another Welsh penalty on 44 minutes.

And the game was more or less won five minutes later as Scott Hendrie finished off yet another sweeping move. The Welsh conversion stretched the advantage to 23-6.

Harkness shrugged off a couple of tackles to go over himself just after the hour.

And following a Hendrie quick tap-penalty Ducket raced over to extend the lead further.

However hard Kelso tried they couldn’t match the handling skills of the on-fire Souters.

The sixth, and final, try came in the closing stages with Hendrie collecting the pass to race over in the corner.

The bonus point victory takes Selkirk to within three points of Borders Cup section leaders Melrose.

This weekend Melrose arrive at Poynder Park hoping for a similar scoreline against Kelso.

In Saturday’s other fixture Hawick host Peebles at Mansfield Park.
