ONE of the country’s best landscape photographers will make a snap visit to Peebles later this year.

The town’s camera club has announced it will host a special open meeting with lens-man Colin Prior at the Eastgate Theatre on Thursday, October 30.

His talk, entitled “The Journey So Far”, covers three decades of photography, not only in Scotland, but in many of the wild places throughout the world.

Colin was recently featured in an episode of the BBC Adventure Show called “Colin Prior - Mountain Man”. In his photography, Colin captures sublime moments of light and land; the result of meticulous planning and preparation that often takes years to achieve. He seeks out patterns in the landscape and hidden links between reality and the imagination.

Colin will touch on his current projects - one in Scotland, the other in Pakistan’s Karakoram mountains. He is a Fellow of the Royal Photographic Society and a founding member of the International League of Conservation Photographers. He has exhibited in the Glasgow Science Centre; OXO Tower Gallery, London; Museum of Education, Glasgow and The Linhof Gallery in London.

His seven books, published internationally by Constable, include The World’s Wild Places and High Light. His latest, collector’s edition, Scotland’s Finest Landscapes, is presented in a clam-shell box and published in November 2014 includes many photographs which are recognisable through his style of photography.

His calendars have won in two categories at the National Business Calendar Awards in London on two consecutive years.

Peebles Camera Club (formerly Tweeddale Photographic Group) was formed in 2009. It meets in the Drill Hall/Community Centre on the first Wednesday of each month (not June - August) at 7.30pm.

The programme covers talks by professional photographers and some members; practical sessions are also held and in the summer photographic outings. Throughout the programme a print competition is held on defined subjects on a monthly basis.

Tickets for the show, priced £10, are available from the Eastgate Theatre in Peebles by calling 01721 725777, or email boxoffice@eastgatearts.com
