A SPECIALLY created installation by Glasgow based artist, Toby Paterson has opened at the Tweeddale Museum in Peebles.

Art lovers from across the Borders are encouraged to take advantage of this rare opportunity to experience Toby’s work.

As well as the installation, which invites the viewer to think about the ever changing visual qualities of architecture in the modern urban landscape, visitors will be able to view paintings and prints from the last four years which give an introduction to his approach.

Some new work created for the exhibition includes Toby’s response to the Bernat Klein Studio at High Sunderland near Selkirk.

Built in 1969, it was designed by Peter Womersley, the architect who was also behind the Gala Fairydean Stadium and the current Scottish Borders Council headquarters which was completed in 1966.

Toby said: “The main aim of my art is to encourage the viewer to assess their own feelings about modern architecture, in particular the built environment which surrounds us in our everyday lives.

“I’m drawn to buildings and environments all too frequently deemed as presenting evidence of failure, or even to those considered as of no interest at all.” The exhibition is being held in conjunction with the Scottish Touring Exhibitions Consortium and runs until Saturday, October 25 in the Gallery. The Museum is open weekdays from 10.30am to 12.30pm and 1pm to 4pm as well as Saturday mornings.

There will also be a free talk about GENERATION and Toby Paterson’s work in the Gallery by Moira Jeffrey, writer and art critic from the Scotsman on Saturday, October 4.

Scottish Borders Council’s Visual Arts Officer, Elizabeth Hume added: “This exhibition is a coup for the Borders. I’m really pleased to have been involved with GENERATION. It is such a prestigious and ambitious project which has involved many art galleries across Scotland and is linked to the Glasgow 2014 Cultural Programme which aims to celebrate the best of contemporary Scottish art from the last 25 years. I’m also thrilled to be working with Toby Paterson who is an internationally renowned artist.”
