THERE was a bit of a drama at Peebles High School this week with pupils and teachers involved.

The school staged its own version of the hit film Sunshine on Leith on Tuesday, Wednesday and Thursday.

Pupils from the first to sixth year took part in the show, scripted by Stephen Greenhorn, featuring the songs of The Proclaimers.

The performance was full of poignant moments as the characters, men and women, young and old, grappled with the ups and downs of life, love and work.

Ollie Lambert and Callum Gray played the roles of Davy and Ally, two squaddies returning from a stint in Afghanistan to try their luck on civvy street. Treeve Willcock was Davy’s wanderlust-struck sister and Maggie Ashmole took the role of Davy’s serious-minded girlfriend. Tabitha Benton-Evans and Craig Mullins have to survive a classic marital crisis as they play Jean and Rab.

The dazzling cast of young men and women in the chorus and supporting roles were joined by drama teacher Margaret Anne McAllister and music teacher Fiona Reed to act and sing their hearts out.
