A DISABLED pensioner has kicked up a stink after a delay in repairing a fault with his walk-in shower left him unable to wash for 14 days.
Alister Douglas, of Witchwood Crescent in Peebles, has complained to his landlord, Eildon Housing Association.
The 65-year-old revealed he is unable to wash at his sink because he has problems with his balance after he fell down the stairs at a previous address.
Mr Douglas said: “I find it rather shocking that a registered disabled person can’t have a shower, I have a balance problem after an accident.
“Eildon just make excuse after excuse. It is now two weeks since it first stopped working.
“I had to phone Eildon for them to authorise a plumber to come out. He found that there was a faulty part on the pump under the sink. His boss at R3 Maintenance, Eildon’s contractors, said it would take five days for the part to arrive.” Eildon Housing Association revealed it aimed to respond as quickly as possible to tenants’ concerns.
And, after being contacted by the Peeblesshire News, it revealed a new part has been ordered and would be fitted.
Eildon Housing Association chief executive Nile Istephan said: “I am entirely sympathetic when there are problems like this, it makes it very difficult for people whether with social landlords or privately renting.
“Tenants have problems from time to time when things break and we do try to respond as quickly as possible."
