POLICE in Innerleithen are warning residents to check their bank statements this Christmas following a report that one had “substantial funds” stolen from their bank account over a number of months.

Officers also advised against giving out any personal information over the phone.

Innerleithen Community Council heard there there were 20 calls to the police from the local area in November.

They included a report of three males jumping in front of cars on the A72 road between Peebles and Clovenfords in the early hours of Wednesday, November 12. The meeting heard the males were traced and warned.

The following day a dog was reported running about Peebles Road in Innerleithen. However, when they arrived, the police failed to find a lead.

On Tuesday, November 18, police received a report of dangerous driving between Walkerburn and Innerleithen. However, the vehicle could not be traced as the wrong details were given.

And, on Friday, November 21, a two car smash was reported at Glenormiston Steading. No injuries were recorded.
