ONCE again pupils at Peebles High School are competing in the first round of the Rotary Young Chef of the Year competition.
They must prepare and serve a two-course meal for two at a cost not exceeding £10.
The second round, to which the two top placed pupils go forward, is for all Borders schools and is followed by an East of Scotland round when the competition is increased to a three-course meal for two at a cost of £15.
Thereafter the winner of an all Scotland and North England round goes forward to the UK finals.
Five pupils were shortlisted - Caitlin Williams, Kaitlin Blair, Luc Ramsay, Sam Hargreave and Freddie Watts. After a closely-fought contest Kaitlin Blair was the winner but this a play-off for second place between Caitlin Williams and Freddie Watts. This will be held shortly to determine who joins Kaitlin in the next round.
The judges were chefs Val Brunton from the Sunflower Restaurant and Robbie Penman from Peebles Hydro and they will mentor the two winners.
The Rotary Club would like to thank the judges and sponsors Tesco and Sainsbury’s who have provided all the ingredients.
