WITCHCRAFT, Arctic exploration and sending a balloon into space are just some of the adventures set for Peebles during the Borders Science Festival.

The Festival, which exploded into life last week, features a packed programme of events throughout May.

There's activities for people of all ages including walks, talks, star gazing, theatre performances and loads of fun experiments.

Live Borders are organising the month of science.

Live Borders communities librarian Ruth Lyle told us: “Science is all around us and our aim is to encourage people to look out and up from their world and discover new things.

"With a dynamic and diverse programme this year's festival has something for everyone.

"Families will have the chance to unravel the mysteries of science through workshops and imagination.

"Activities for juniors will include gooey experiments in our Scottish Borders libraries bringing together worlds of words and science, whilst for adults there are river walks, sessions with local artists and author talks.”

Last Thursday adventurers were taken on a Tweed Forum walk from Lakewood.

And today (Friday) there is a special forensics and witchcraft event at Peebles Library.

On Tuesday there's a talk from explorer David Aston about his trips to the North Pole.

And finally Peebles First Space Shot, when pupils from Peebles High School are joining forces with Tweeddale Astronomical Society to launch a high altitude balloon up into the atmosphere.

It is hoped the on-board instruments will transmit images and data back to Earth.

Chief Executive of Live Borders, Ewan Jackson told us: “ The 2016 Borders Science Festival is jam packed with unusual, engaging and informative events for everyone from young children to adults. There will be activities taking place across the region throughout the month so everyone will have the chance to get involved and be inspired.”

The Borders Science Festival is now in its fourth year, initially started as a schools-based initiative but is now coordinated by Live Borders Libraries and Creative Learning.
