THE Manor Water Sheep Dog Trial, The Grand Show of Sheep and the Manor Open Hill Race were all held last Saturday and participants from around the Borders signed up to the many events.

And the participants certainly did not disappoint.

Secretary Niki Craig said: "In the Dog Trial, fewer participants than normal took part, due to other events but there was still a very strong field and some new faces too.

"The Sheep Show was very well attended, the pens were full, despite competition from other sheep events on the same date.

"Finlay Smith Cloverhill judged the Black Face Sheep and the Mules, and Tam Sanderson judged the Prime Lambs, both Judges were exceptionally well turned out, Hats off to them. Their attendance and social skills were well received and appreciated by all, and their stamina was exceptional," she added.

"A truly great day was had by all. The committee who work hard to make this event a success would like to thank the Manor WRI for providing the catering, and serving throughout the day.

"Thank the Ab Fab girls for providing social refreshments and entertainment, to our sheep Judges, Finlay Smith, Tam Sanderson, to our Dog Trial Judge Peter Kinstrey, and course Director Brian MacFarlane and his fine assistant on the day, Davie Wallace.

"Thanks to Jane Ramsay who presented the prizes on behalf of the committee.

"Also thanks to our sponsors, Scott Motors, Meikle Fencing among many others, and to Graham Irvine Plant Hire for the designer toilet facility. This years raffle was extremely well stocked and supported."

Here are all the results:

MANOR OPEN HILL RACE

A total of 58 seniors headed out on this year's Manor Water Hill Race.
The race is now in its 24th year and has established itself as a permanent fixture on the hill running calendar.

Excellent running conditions gave hope that the course record, held by Brian Marshall since 2006, might be broken.

And that was the case. James Waldie (Carnethy) came home in 1:07:35, completing the 10 mile/2,300 feet climb race 39 seconds ahead of the record.

Second overall, and last years winner, Phil Davies (Borrowdale) came home in 1:09:46 followed in 3rd place by Andrew Barrington (Lochaber) in 1:13:36.
In the women's race, the record held by Angela Mudge (Carnethy) still stands strong since it was set in 2010, as Georgina McAllister (Carnethy) finished in 1:45:20. Second was Sadie Kemp (Penicuik) in 1:53:29, and 3rd Lindsay Palmer (Glossopdale) in 1:55:23.
