TWEEDDALE MP David Mundell paid a visit to Broughton Ales last week, to hear about plans to expand the business.

On Friday, the Secretary of State for Scotland toured the site and got the chance to sample some of the products.

He was shown around by John Hunt and David McGowan, who were part of a trio alongside Steve McCarney who took over the business in 2015.

And Mr Mundell is now looking into putting a Broughton Ales beer forward as a guest beer in the House of Commons Strangers Bar.

He told the Peeblesshire News: "I was delighted to pay a visit to Broughton Ales which is vital for the local economy in Tweeddale.

"It was very pleasing to hear that there are plans to develop and expand the site and I thoroughly enjoyed getting shown round the tour.

"It was also nice to sample some of their products, although I couldn't try too much as I had a surgery in Peebles afterwards!

"I look forward to supporting plans to take the business forward and I hope to return to Broughton Ales again."
