AN open invitation has been made my pupils at Peebles High to join them for an enlightening evening of remembrance.

One of the country's most renowned war historians, Sir Hew Strachan, will deliver a lecture on how interpretations of the Great War have changed over the past century.

The Lord Lieutenant of Tweeddale is currently Professor of International Relations at the University of St Andrews.

And he has also held the post of Professor of the History of War at All Souls College, Oxford.

Sir Hew's talk, The First World War: 100 Years On, is part of the High School's own programme of remembrance to mark the centenary of the end of the 1914-1918 conflict.

Senior pupil Anna McGorum told us: "Sir Hew Strachan is one of Scotland’s leading military historians and is well known for his work on the history of war and the administration of the British Army.

"Sir Hew will look at how interpretations of the war have changed over 100 years, how that has affected remembrance and where we stand now."

The free event will take place in Peebles High's assembly hall from 7pm to 8pm on Thursday, November 1.

Tea, coffee and cakes will be available from 6.30pm with all contributions going towards Poppy Scotland.
