A DOZEN passengers on a Carlisle-bound bus have been injured in a crash on the A7.

The bus collided with a lorry on High Mill Bridge just north of Langholm at around 12 noon this afternoon.

Emergency services have been on the scene for almost two hours.

A spokesman for Police Scotland said: "A number of passengers on the bus have been transported by ambulance to either the Cumberland Infirmary in Carlisle or Dumfries and Galloway Royal Infirmary in Dumfries, with what are described as cuts and bruises.

"It is believe that there were about 12 passengers on the bus."

Attempts are being made to clear the carriageway to prevent 100-mile diversions being implemented.

Engineers are also inspecting the bridge ahead of the road re-opening.

The Police Scotland spokesman added: "The road at the scene is completely blocked. "Part of the bridge was struck in the collision and the bridge will be examined for any structural damage when the vehicles are removed."
