A LOTTERY player has missed out on a £1million prize – after failing to cash their ticket in on time.

As we previously reported, the deadline for the mystery millionaire was on Monday.

The winning ticket, which was bought in nearby South Lanarkshire for the Euromillions draw on May 30, had the correct raffle code on the bottom of the slip: AQUA 2910 9850.

But the prize wasn't claimed within the 180-day deadline.

And the money has been donated to boost lottery-funded projects.

Andy Carter, from the National Lottery, said, "Unfortunately, I can confirm that the ticket-holder did not come forward within the deadline to claim their prize and has now sadly missed out on this substantial amount of money.

"To avoid this unfortunate situation happening again, I would urge all National Lottery players to check their tickets on a regular basis.

"We tried very hard to find the ticket-holder and it’s a real shame that they have missed out, but there is still one winner – the nation.

"This money, and all the interest earned over the 180 days, will now go to benefit projects, like New Lanark World Heritage Site, all over the UK funded by The National Lottery."

This is the seventh time since 2006 that Scottish players have lost out on seven-figure prizes by failing to come forward in time.
