SCOTTISH Borders Council is driving ahead with its support for major safety work to be carried out at Leadburn Junction.

The accident blackspot where the A703, A701 and A6094 has undergone minor improvements over the past decade.

But crashes and near-misses continue regularly and have led to further calls for action.

Although the junction is just inside neighbouring Midlothian, politicians are pushing for both local authorities to address the continued concerns.

This week Tweeddale West councillor Eric Small tabled a motion wanting, 'the Leader to write to the Leader of Midlothian Council requesting that they take action to improve road safety at Leadburn Junction and offering support of officers at Scottish Borders Council to work with them in developing an improvement plan for the junction'.

His motion was passed by 27 votes to four at yesterday's full meeting of Scottish Borders Council.
