THE remnants of festive cheer that left every bottle bank in Peebles bursting at the seams have prompted a recycling company to up their collections.
Last month members of the Peebles Community Council were aghast when shown pictures of the sea of bottles that surrounded the glass recycling bins in Tesco carpark.
Tweeddale Councillor Robin Tatler addressed the issue with the Council’s Neighbourhood Services who contacted Viridor regarding increased uplifts over the festive period.
Chairman of the community council Lawrie Hayworth said: “They (Viridor) put their hands up and said they didn’t sufficiently resource for the seasonal increase in bottles.
"What ended up happening was rather than people taking their bottles home and bring them back, they made their own little glass mountains around the collection points.
"Perhaps within their diary they might look at increasing uplifts at the Beltane Festival also."
