TWEEDALE MP David Mundell is muscling up ahead of the final Brexit battles in Parliament.

The Scottish Secretary landed a one-hour training session recently during a silent auction at the Eastgate Theatre in Peebles.

And this week Mr Mundell pulled on his trainers for the session with Gillian Wrigley of The Health Rooms studios and treatment centre.

The 56-year-old believes the initial pilates and general fitness hour was beneficial.

He told us: "Despite the time pressures of politics, I've been considering setting a little time aside to improve my physical fitness.

"That's why I was delighted when the opportunity came along for some tuition from an expert like Gillian, who was a brilliant coach.

"As well as having a reputation for easing some aches and pains, it is also becoming increasingly popular as a general form of exercise."

Mr Mundell, who also enjoys cycling, quipped: "I hope my fitness pledge to myself is easier to deliver than Brexit."

Gillian, who runs The Health Rooms with husband Stephen, offers a range of services including physiotherapy, sports injury massage and podiatry.

She said: "David was an enthusiastic and attentive student, who appreciates the benefits of exercise.

"I wish him well with his training and hope to see him back again soon."
