A pathway organisation that helps school pupils in the Borders find careers and jobs is hosting the Biggest Parents Evening in Galashiels this week.

Developing the Young Workforce Borders are one of 21 regional groups working in partnership with local employers to showcase apprenticeship and career opportunities as part of Scottish Apprenticeship Week.

The local DYW Borders event will be held at Job Centre Plus, Galashiels on Wednesday (March 6).

The live jobs fair features full-time, part-time and apprenticeship opportunities as well as a CV workshop and information on the SQA Qualifications and the apprenticeship family.

Sara Ward, Programme Manager with DYW Borders, told us: "The event will provide an understanding of the apprenticeship family while getting rid of the myths and misconceptions.

"Hosted in partnership with Skills Development Scotland, Borders College and Jobcentre Plus the aim of the event is to promote the fantastic local career opportunities and help parents and carers understand why they should encourage more young people in choosing an apprenticeship in the Scottish Borders."

National and local organisations who have already signed up to promote their opportunities at the Biggest Parents Evening include NHS Borders, Oregon Timber, Scottish Borders Council, Works+, McDonald Cardrona Hotel, the Scottish Fire and Rescue Service, Mears Group, Encompass and many more.

Sara added: "The event will not only demonstrate a clear commitment from employers to showcase the great opportunities that are available locally but raise the profile of those committed to Developing the Young Workforce.

"We are very aware that parents are the biggest influencers in a child’s career path, therefore we aim to influence the influencers."

The event, which runs from 5pm to 7pm, is open parents and pupils
