AN AWARD-WINNING author will visit Carlops Hall today to show how the pen is mightier than the sword… most of the time.

Sarah Fraser will give a talk on her critically acclaimed book The Last Highlander: Scotland’s Most Notorious Clan Chief, Rebel and Double Agent.

Winner of the Saltire Society First Book Prize in 2012, The Last Highlander is highly regarded amongst Scottish history enthusiasts.

And will be welcomed with open arms to Carlops Village Hall.

Sarah’s debut book also became a New York Times ebook bestseller in 2016.

Originally from England, she moved to Scotland 30 years ago and now works as an author, broadcaster and historical speaker on the British Stuart era.

Non-fiction triumph The Last Highlander features the life of Simon Fraser, the last nobleman to be executed for treason against Bonnie Prince Charlie.

Known as the Old Fox, in Outlander, Simon appears as the grandfather of Jamie Fraser, the hero of the popular television show.

Now filming their fifth season, Outlander uses Sarah’s book as source material and has made her a consultant for the series.

Following her book’s success, she made a documentary about the last highlander with history presenter Dan Snow.

Mystery of the Headless Man was streamed on History Hit TV last year.

Catriona Taylor, the event promoter, said: “We are delighted to welcome Sarah Fraser to Carlops to talk about her book.

And we are also excited to hold Carlops Hall’s first ever author event.”

The talk will take place Friday, May 17 at 7.30pm.
