PEEBLESSHIRE bus users could be able to stay in Galashiels after dark if there is sufficient demand for a late service.
Currently the last bus from Galashiels to Peebles is at 9.30pm weekdays and Saturday, and 8.35pm on Sundays.
The possibility of introducing a later bus is being investigated and community councils are trying to establish if there is a desire for this so they can present it to Scottish Borders Council.
Peebles Community Council asked locals for feedback and the overwhelming response was that a late service was needed for social, educational and work purposes.
Many residents took to social media to say staff that work at the Borders General Hospital often struggle with transport when working late shifts.
Others said they would use the cinema in the town more as they could see later showings, whilst some said it would allow them to attend evening courses at college.
Peebles Community Councillor Scott Rae said there was a huge response from the public.
He added: “There is a lot of support for that idea but obviously its translating support into whether people will actually use it. I think it’s worth us putting together a survey to see what the demand threshold is likely to be.”
