A LOCAL charity that provides children’s clothing and footwear for struggling families in Tweeddale is taking a step forward by teaming up with a Peebles retailer.

We’ve all heard the saying of the cobbler’s bairns not having any shoes – well thanks to Tweed Togs and business owner of the Perfect Fit, Kerrie Guiney, no bairn in Tweeddale should go without decent footwear.

Working from their new base at Kailzie Gardens, volunteers at Tweed Togs collect good quality babies and children’s clothing and footwear and donate it to families in need.

The charitable organisation now has new volunteer Kerrie on board and together they make the perfect fit.

Kerrie told the Peeblesshire News: “The Perfect Fit believes every child should have the opportunity to have good, proper-fitting shoes.

“I am delighted to become the first collection point for children’s footwear in the Borders. This will allow children to donate shoes they have outgrown to the charity.

“I will ensure shoes are cleaned and in good condition to be passed on to a child in the local community who is in need of footwear. I will also be popping in a card with each pair, offering the parent or guardian to come into the Perfect Fit and get the shoes checked properly.

“So many families in our local community can go through hard times and anything I can do to help is very important to me as a local business woman.”

And with charitable giving such as this, it’s easy to see why the retailer picked up Best Independent Retailer at the Borders Business Awards.

Kerrie added: “To know that my customers are voting for me means everything and the business is going from strength to strength.”
