INSPIRING Life: Evie Douglas Memorial Fund have been presented with a cheque for over £7000 thanks to the fundraising efforts made by the Peebles and District Round Table.

Inspiring Life, was set up in memory of dancer Evie Douglas, who took her own life in November 2014, aged just 21.

Chairman of Round Table, Sean Byrne, said: "Supporting Inspiring Life has aligned with the Peebles and District Round Table’s strong focus this year on helping to improve mental health and wellbeing in our local area.

"£1000 was raised through the Round Table bar at the Peebles Agricultural Show. Through the generous sponsorship of Stobo, the Round Table have been able to donate every penny of the gross profit raised from the Peebles and District Round Table fireworks display to Inspiring Life, bringing the total donation to £7049.94.

"Members of the Round Table feel very privileged to be part of that."

Sean added: "Evie reached many people in Peeblesshire through her personality, dance and creativity. Five years on from her death, Evie’s story continues to strongly resonate with so many people.

"One in four of us will experience some form of mental illness. It could be absolutely anyone.

"It is important that we raise awareness and help to break the stigma."

Evie’s mother, Freda Douglas, who works to raise awareness of mental ill-health and helps to support those in need, accepted the cheque for the charity.

The Peebles and District Round Table are actively seeking new members. They are involved in a range of fundraising, social and family-based activities throughout the year.
