BIGGAR was ablaze yet again to welcome in the New Year this week.

Thousands of locals and visitors enjoyed the Hogmanay celebrations - with almost as many tuning in live to the town's world-wide web coverage.

Former teacher Bobby Boyd MBE was given the honour this year of lighting the bonfire.

And he was ably assisted by the town's Principals - Cornet Alan Bartholomew and Flemming Queen Sophie Leech.

One of the biggest torchlight processions in recent years took place ahead of the lighting ceremony at 9.30pm.

And the flames were still burning bright as the town celebrated the bells.
