THE more mature citizens of Peebles were entertained last week at the annual Old Folks' Treat.

Dozens of OAPs enjoyed an evening of some fine-dining and plenty of musical accompaniment on Wednesday at the Peebles Hydro.

Many of the town's organisations, particularly the Peebles Gutterbluids Society and Peebles Callants’ Club, come together to help put on the hugely popular Senior Citizens' Social Evening.

Throughout Wednesday evening, the town's pensioners enjoyed not only an excellent dinner but also attentive service from the Hydro staff.

But the Old Folks' Treat wouldn't be complete without some dancing and singing.

Volunteer artistes this year included Peebles Burgh Silver Band and the Selkirk-based Riddell Fiddles.

Douglas Wright, convenor of Peebles Old Folks' Treat Committee, told us: "We were entertained with a great performance by Peebles Burgh Silver Band.

"A total of 20 members of the Band turned out to entertain us with a wide-ranging medley of music - to resounding applause.

"The concert continued with folk music provided by four tutors from Riddell Fiddles.

"We are extremely grateful to them for coming through from the Selkirk area to take part in our concert, and their contribution was reflected in the applause given."

Tickets for this year's Treat, which were donated by Elmbank printers, were distributed during the coffee morning at the School Brae Hub earlier in the month.
