PEEBLESSHIRE is expected to be hit by heavy rainfall this weekend, with the Met Office issuing yellow weather warnings for the area.

Two separate warnings for rain have been issued, with the first for Friday (February 19) – between 6am-9pm – and the second covering from midday on Saturday until 3am on Sunday morning.

For both alerts, the Met Office has warned that “flooding of a few homes and businesses is likely” – with 20-40mm of rainfall “likely quite widely”.

The Met Office also predicts that 50-60mm of rainfall is “possible over some hilly areas” across the weekend.

Regarding Friday’s warning, a Met Office spokesperson said: “Rain will become persistent and heavy at times from early on Friday morning, continuing through the day before easing in the evening.”

For both warnings, the Met Office forecasts that heavy rain will impact journeys both by car and via public transport due to predictions of “spray and flooding on roads”.
