NHS Borders has given an update as it continues to carry out its coronavirus vaccination programme.

A total of 81,500 people across the region have now received their first jab of a COVID-19 vaccine, the health board announced on Monday (June 21).

The vaccination teams “continue to make great progress” with second doses, says NHS Borders, with 63,500 people having received their second jab.

The UK Government says that 87.6 per cent of adults in the Borders have had their first dose, with 67.2 per cent of over-18s in the region now fully vaccinated.

A spokesperson from NHS Borders confirmed that the health board has started vaccinating 18 to 29-year-olds as it moves into the next phase of its programme.

The spokesperson added: “People in this group who pre-registered will receive their appointment via text or email.

“Appointments have also started to be scheduled for those in this group who didn’t pre-register and appointment letters (blue envelope) are on the way.

“Some appointments have been made for this week, if you are 18-29 you can use the appointment checker to find out if you have an upcoming appointment: https://invitations.vacs.nhs.scot/"

Meanwhile, the region’s health board announced that it will run a vaccine drop-in clinic in Kelso for the third consecutive weekend.

However, this time the clinic will offer the Pfizer vaccine as well as the AstraZeneca, with anyone aged 30 or over able to attend to have their first jab.

You can also attend the clinic if you had your first dose before May 2 and are awaiting your second dose, even if you already have an appointment for your second jab.

The clinic will be at the Borders Events Centre, Springwood Park, from 9.30am-4.30pm on Saturday (June 26).
