A TEENAGER who was clocked speeding at 93mph on the A7 north of Hawick avoided a discretionary driving ban at Jedburgh Justice of the Peace Court on Wednesday.

Nineteen-year-old Jordan Shiel, would have been disqualified if his licence was endorsed with six penalty points after admitting the speeding offence in a 60mph limit at Synton, near Ashkirk, on July 10 last year.

But Dr John Burns JP opted to impose five penalty points which resulted in a six months ban not being imposed.

Shiel, of Wellogate, Hawick, was also fined £200.
