Borderer Samantha Kinghorn narrowly missed out on a bronze medal by four hundredth of a second in the T53 800m final in Tokyo this morning.

The 25-year-old wheelchair racing world champion cruised through her heat in 2nd place during the early hours then in the final finished fourth in a season’s best time of 1.47.94.

Madison De Rozario of Australia took gold with a world record time of 1.45.99.

China’s Zhou Hongzhuan finished in second place and Switzerland’s Catherine Debrunner finished in third.

Samantha spent lockdown training at the family home in Gordon.

She will also compete in the T53 100m, 400m, and 4x100m universal relay.

Her preferred distance of 200m is not being held in the Paralympics this year due to a lack of time to fit in all the respective events.
