POLICE officers from the Borders Community Action Team were in the Monynut Area of Berwickshire last week following reports of off-road motorcycles using the area illegally, and causing damage to fencing.
The team who are funded by Scottish Borders Council in addition to the allocated strength from Police Scotland operate across the area, focussing on important local issues such as anti-social behaviour, drugs, illegal parking and theft.
After the deployment Sergeant Rourke reminded the public that it is illegal to ride an off-road motorcycle on land without the landowners permission and added that officers have engaged with the various landowners in the Monynut area who confirm that they have not given consent for people to ride off road motorcycles in the area.
A statement on social media said: “This could result in having your motorcycle seized and being charged with Road Traffic Offences and possibly resulting in penalty points on your driving licence.
“If used on a public road then they are subject to all the usual requirements of road traffic law including insurance, licence, registration, and that all the appropriate safety equipment is fitted for use on a road.”
