A BORDERS cricket player joined her teammates on stage at an awards ceremony last week.

Charis Scott, 19, who made her Scotland Wildcats debut in 2019, joined her colleagues at the Scottish Sports Women’s Awards in Glasgow.

At the ceremony on November 26, Scotland Women’s Cricket (Wildcats) were named as Team of the Year which Charis said was a surprise.

“We didn’t know we were going to win,” said Charis. “It was a big surprise.”

During the summer, the Wildcats won all their ICC Women’s T20 World Cup Europe qualifier matches in La Manga, Spain, in which Charis formed part of the side which beat Germany.

Charis, who started playing cricket in Galashiels when she was six years old, added: “It’s been a busy year for us.

“Busy, but enjoyable.

“Thankfully we’re an outdoor sport so we have still been able to play.

“We’ve been quite lucky, just a lot of lateral flow tests to make sure we’re safe ourselves and for others.”

The Wildcats will now go on to play at the global qualifying tournament where the prize for victory is a place in the ICC Women’s T20 World Cup in South Africa in 2023.
