IN A busy weekend of club rugby Hawick took the honours in the Premiership Borders derby, beating Jed-Forest 34-10 at the Riverside.

Hawick’s tries came from Andrew Mitchell (2), Ruaridh McLeod and Shawn Muir. Kirk Ford scored four conversions and added two penalties. Gregor Young and Paulo Ferreira scored for Jed.

That result all but secures Hawick’s place in the top-four play-offs. Jed are now in sixth place but still looking over their shoulders at the bottom of the table.

Selkirk lost 24-9 in the capital to Edinburgh Accies. Their points came from two Scott Clark penalties and one from Callum Anderson. That result leaves the Souters in second bottom place which could see them needing a play off victory to retain their top-flight status.

In National League One Gala secured a four-try bonus point 26-2 victory over Dundee in a hard fought encounter at Netherdale. Gala’s tries came from Taylor Wilson, Angus Dun, John Turnbull and Fergus Johnston. Craig Dods scored three conversions.

Biggar beat Kelso 12-10 at Hartree Mill. Keith Melbourne scored Kelso’s try which Dwain Paterson converted. Paretson also added a penalty.

These results leave Gala in third, five points behind Hariot's Blues with two games in hand. Kelso are fourth and Melrose sixth.
