Organisers of the Jack Docherty tour which includes venues in the Borders are confident that the shows will go-ahead despite huge speculation linking Chief Commissioner Cameron Miekelson with the vacant post in the Met!
Within minutes of Dame Cressida Dick’s dramatic resignation last night, numerous posts on social media put two and two together, including one from the Chief himself asking trusty secretary Jean to check the pay scales.
Other posts show him holding for London Mayor Sadiq Khan.
The less than politically correct Chief though is unlikely to be what the Met are looking for and fans can be reassured because the Chief has already turned down one top law enforcement job to take his new one-man show ‘Nothing But’ tour on the road, as he told the Peeblesshire News.
“Scot Squad is shown all around the world. It used to be the case that only TV viewers would see the show but clips reach millions of people and now I’ve even had cops from Seattle message me to say I should be their Chief.”
Docherty, one of Scotland's favourite comic performers and the BAFTA award winning star of Scot Squad and Absolutely, will be appearing on stage at the Eastgate Theatre in Peebles and the MacArts Theatre in Galashiels.
On the back of a critically acclaimed season at the Edinburgh Festival Fringe 2021, ‘Nothing But’ is a tender, playful, darkly comic tale in which he grapples with lost youth, infatuation, fatherhood, sex, secrets and truth.
Jack is casting aside his police uniform for the tour but is considering returning as the hugely popular Chief Commissioner Cameron Miekelson in the future.
Despite huge success as a writer and actor, Jack prefers the thrill of live audiences.
He told us: “Live shows are the best buzz, if they go well. There’s nothing like it but I get nervous beforehand. In fact, I’m nervous already and the tour is six-weeks away. I did the show at the Edinburgh Festival and it was well received by the critics ('A maverick genius' (Herald). 'A hugely talented comic performer' (Sunday Times). 'A superb character comedian, had me rocking with laughter. Comedy at its finest' (Scotland on Sunday), but it’s not about critics, it’s about the audience.
“I’ve never done a show as myself, I’ve always played characters, so I thought I’d try it out and people seem to have liked it. It’s 90% comedy and 10% serious and if you are pretentious, you would call it a play.
“I know the Borders well. My sister Caroline (Docherty) stayed in Peebles, my brother-in-law Neil Wood stays in Galashiels and my parents Campbell and Joan (Docherty) stayed in Earlston for five years. I also used to date a girl from the Textile College in Gala.”
Jack has recently finished filming the latest series of Scot Squad in which he plays the hugely popular Chief Commissioner.
“It’s in the can as they say. There’s actually a bit of my dad in the Chief. He was very funny but always right, even when he wasn’t. I’ve nothing planned right now although I’m working on a few projects and once the show has finished at this year’s Edinburgh Festival I might think about taking the Chief on tour or even bring out his autobiography.”
Nothing But can be seen at the Eastgate Theatre Peebles on Thursday 17 March 2022 Tickets £15 & £13 and the MacArts Galashiels Saturday 9 Apr 2022, 19:30 Tickets £16.76 inc boking fee.
