A BORDERS couple who moved their award-winning business to Galashiels hope their new premises will be a space for the public to get to know their brand.

Luckie Beans Coffee Company is based off of Bank Street and is run by Esther and Jamie McLuckie.

The couple bought their Galashiels premises in 2020 and use the space as their roasting headquarters, having previously roasted their award-winning coffees from their home where they live with their two children.

“The business has just gone from strength to strength,” said Esther.

Since its founding in 2015, Luckie Beans has won a number of awards – most recently two Great Taste Awards.

The Luckie Beans roastery in Galashiels is open to customers on Wednesdays, with signs directing them to the roastery displayed on Bank Street.

“We were looking for a property and wanting people to come in,” said Esther. “Our house was not ideal for that.

“We found this building and felt the creativity of the town.”

Before turning his hands to coffee roasting, Jamie worked in the music industry as a sound engineer, and while on tours he would visit different roasteries.

Esther said: “He [Jamie] is really driven and passionate.

“From being a sound engineer, there are lots of skills that can be transferred to coffee roasting.

“It’s very similar, lots of tiny changes to make the coffee the best it can be, like with music.

“It’s quite scientific but he has great attention to detail which is why we’ve won awards.”

Luckie Beans has 12 coffee varieties available.

And for those visiting the roastery, the company can grind your beans to whatever you need for how you brew your coffee at home.

Luckie Beans can be found at various events in and around the Borders – such as the Galashiels Heartland Market, Borders Book Festival and Borders Union Show.

The company also has a stand at Haymarket Station in Edinburgh.

Luckie Beans can be found on Facebook, Twitter and Instagram where they also share updates regarding the opening of the roastery.
