POLICE in the Scottish Borders conducted speed checks outside schools in the region last week.

On Wednesday October 19 the Scottish Borders Community Action Team (CAT)  officers participated in the National Safe Speed Day campaign and conducted speed checks outside Kingsland Primary School in Peebles.

The CAT consist of officers funded by Scottish Borders Council on top of the authorised Police Scotland strength.

These officers are tasked by the council to deal with quality of life issues affecting the local communities.

The following day Thursday October 20 PC's Cameron and MacLeod conducted checks outside Chirnside Primary School.

On that occasion the officers carried out their duties with the helpful assistance of the school's Junior Road Safety Officers (JRSO's).

All primary schools in the region have JRSO's, who assist local community officers spread the importance of road safety within their school and the local community.

And officers say that they are always happy to have their help!

Police Scotland say that they encourage all road users to be mindful of reducing their speed and safe parking, particularly around schools.
