A 36-YEAR-OLD man caught with “a large quantity” of herbal cannabis at Borders General Hospital has been fined £150 and ordered to pay a £10 victim surcharge.

Selkirk Sheriff Court was told Andrew Headspeath, of Anderson Place Hawick, had been rushed to hospital on August 18 with a suspected methadone overdose when officers searched his bag and found between £200 and £250 worth of the Class B drug.

Solicitor Mat Patrick said his client’s drug problem was “out of control” at the time but that he is now in a better place after seeking help.
