The latest from Brian Henry of Peebles Camera Club and celebrating members' successes at the second round of its club competition...
In mid-February Peebles Camera Club held the second round of the club competition.
The judge was Dr Neil Scott FRPS, EFIAP but, unfortunately due to Neil’s health, he was unable to travel to Peebles and he critiqued and scored the entries by Zoom.
Both prints and digital images were judged by Neil, 18 prints and 33 digital images and in his opening remarks Neil was very impressed by the print entries and were the best he had seen for a while.
Sitting at home in Edinburgh, Neil held the prints before him while giving his comments but all the members were able to see the digital version of the print on their own screens at home.
In his comments he highlighted sharp images which contrasted with a completely out of focus background.
On some of the nature shots he complimented the photographer’s sense of timing in getting a sharp image whilst the animal was in motion.
Where Neil was not able to award high marks he identified why this was so and he encouraged the members to become more creative. Many of the images were considered ‘record shots’ which are personal to the photographer but had difficulty in coming out of the ordinary category.
Three prints obtained the top mark of 20; these were Camargue Tranquillity and Touchdown both by Sandy Welsh. Kevin Lomax’s Hoopoe in Flight also achieved 20. Kathy Henry’s Wading Lion and Margaret Jamie’s Tiny Dancers scored 19 points.
Sandy Welsh also picked up the only 20 points in the digital images section for Camargue Gallop with Kathy Henry receiving 19 for her Silver Tulips.
The next evening meeting of the Camera Club will be on March 15 in the Community Centre at 7.30pm when Mary Gibson of Carluke Camera Club will talk about post processing and choosing a competition image.
