A 37-YEAR-OLD man who assaulted a police officer during a disturbance in the Old Town in Peebles has been fined a total of £600 at Selkirk Sheriff Court.
Christopher Walker – who gave an address in Edinburgh – also pleaded guilty to obstructing two officers and struggling violently with them on September 20, 2021.
Fiona Hamilton, prosecuting, explained that police officers on mobile patrol came across a large group congregating outside the Neidpath Inn and expressed concern at the noise they were making.
She said the group dispersed but Walker took issue with the request to quieten down and became difficult with the officers pushing one of them on his body armour.
When he was eventually arrested he struggled violently with two of the officers.
Defence lawyer Ed Hulme said his client had been visiting a friend in Peebles and had no connection with the larger group.
He admitted behaving like a "complete idiot" by getting involved with the police and challenging officers.
Walker was fined £300 on both charges and a £40 Victim Surcharge was added.
