THERE could be a wet start to the weekend tomorrow as the Met Office has issued a yellow warning for rain.

Between 3am and 12pm tomorrow (Saturday, August 19) heavy rain is expected to cause potential delays to travel as well as flooding on roads and in homes.

Thr Met Office today (Friday) revealed that the storm today and tomorrow has been named as Storm Betty.

A Met Office spokesperson said: "A period of heavy rain is expected to affect many parts of Scotland through the first part of Saturday.

"Totals of 20-30mm could fall quite widely within the warning area.

"And much of the rainfall will occur in a relatively short period time, typically 3 to 4 hours.

"Strong and gusty southeasterly winds will accompany the rain, with gusts perhaps as high as 40 mph around some exposed coasts and hills in the east."

This warning has a medium likelihood and a low impact according to the Met Office's warning impact matrix.

The areas covered by the warning include: Melrose, Galashiels, Selkirk, Jedburgh, Innerleithen and Lauder.
