The new Music in Peebles season starts with a welcome return by local violinist Colin Scobie (Eastgate Theatre, Peebles, Sunday, September 3 at 7.3opm).
Colin is well-known in Peebles, both from previous concerts with Music in Peebles, and his childhood appearances with Peebles' orchestras. This time he is joined by Welsh pianist Jâms Coleman.
The programme is a mix of well-loved and less well-known works: Ravel’s jazz-infused Second Violin Sonata, Beethoven’s Third Violin Sonata (the last of his three early sonatas), works by Lili Boulanger and a “Blues” influenced Copland. The programme concludes with Franck’s Violin Sonata in A.
Future concerts feature Jia Ning Ng, winner of the Governors’ Piano Prize at the Royal Conservatoire of Scotland, a return visit from the Resol Quartet, and horn player Ben Goldscheider, winner of the Brass Category in the 2016 BBC Young Musician of the Year competition. He comes to Peebles with an all-star trio. Another star line-up is the Tim Kliphuis Trio, who bring their own take on Bach and Vivaldi—a must see for jazz and classical devotees. Fans of the voice and wind instruments are also catered for, with the Portuguese soprano Filipa Portela and the massed winds of Scottish Opera.
Tickets £18 (season ticket for all eight concerts £90) Under 26s free, discounted tickets £9 (adults accompanying a child under 12 and members of other chamber music societies) available from the Eastgate Theatre on 01721 725777 or at: www.eastgatearts.com
