OVERNIGHT works to renew the road surface on a section of the A702 at Biggar between the A702/A72 Symington Junction and Gas Works Road are set to begin on Monday September 18.

The works will take place between the hours of 7pm and 6.30am over 10 nights.

During these overnight closures, the A702 will be closed in both directions with a diversion route in place.

A signed diversion route will be in place between Maidencoates Roundabout and Melbourne Crossroad via the A73, A70, A721 and A702, adding an estimated 12 miles and 16 minutes to affected journeys.

Tommy Deans, BEAR Scotland’s South East Network Manager, said: “These surfacing improvements on the A702 at Biggar will address and repair defects in the road surface such as rutting and cracks, creating safer and smoother journeys for motorists.

“It is essential for safety that we close the carriageway during these works, however we’ve scheduled them to be carried out during overnight hours to minimise any disruption.

“We thank motorists and the local community in advance for their patience while our teams carry out these improvements.”

Consultation has been carried out with emergency services and other relevant stakeholders to share information about the project in advance.

All work is weather dependent and subject to postponement in the event of adverse conditions.
