Officers have access to a database of all vehicles that are not insured and the same act provides officers with the power to take possession of the vehicle and retain it until the owned can provide proof of insurance.
After the car was stopped the officers discovered that one of the front tyres was bald with the cord exposed.
In addition officers say that the 23-year-old driver was found to be in possession of controlled drugs.
A report outlining the circumstances is being prepared for the attention of the Procurator Fiscal.
