Carlisle’s Salvation Army is celebrating Christmas in its traditional way of giving to others.
The corps is running its annual toy appeal and also holding a carol service this Sunday with all proceeds going to the Eden Valley Hospice.
Captain Melanie Scoulding said the appeal, which closes at the end of next week, has not raised as much money for toys as it has in the past.
“I think the rise in the cost of living is really starting to tell now, plus there is the larger CFM Cash for Kids Christmas appeal," she said. "We would ask, however, that anyone who can afford it, to look at donating to our JustGiving page for the toy appeal.”
The Army is holding a carol service in St Aidan’s Church on Warwick Road at 4.30pm on Sunday afternoon.
“This is a community event which will also raise money for the hospice,” Captain Scoulding said.
“Everyone is welcome,” she added.
